Sadly, it seems olive oil won’t suffice in the glamorous world of #instafoodanymore. Coconut oil is being heavily promoted as a ‘superfood’, and following last week’s questionable advice (more robust evidence is required) from The National Obesity Forum about eating more fat, insta ‘health gurus’ and celeb chefs have been plugging coconut oil this past week. Whilst rubbing it in our faces may do great things (we hear it’s also a#beauty essential!), dig a little deeper, and the nutritional profile isn’t so great.
This article summarises things nicely. Essentially, extra virgin olive oil may not seem as ‘sexy’ as coconut oil, however it certainty trumps in terms of the health benefits and nutritional content. It is not to be over looked!
